The Balancing Act with Bri Blank Alexander

You may have seen her on IG already, or on her website but today we talk with Bri of Bri Healthy on how she finds balance in her every day life. Read on to hear her story.

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

My name is Bri Blank Alexander. I live in Brooklyn, NY and I'm a health and wellness personality and influencer. I lost 150 pounds in a natural way after being overweight my entire life, and now my goal is to make the world a healthier place. I created my platform, Bri Healthy, in 2014 as a foundation to share informative videos, healthy recipes, and more to help people live healthier lifestyles. I have my personal trainer certification, although I don't work as one, to be able to talk about fitness on BH.

What is balance to you?

To me, balance means being able to enjoy it all without restricting yourself.

How do you achieve balance?

When I think of balance, I think about how it relates to healthy eating. When it comes to weight loss, eating is the most important part. I firmly believe that we should be able to enjoy the foods we love in moderation. When we restrict ourselves too much, it's really hard to stay motivated, because we aren't fully happy. When we allow ourselves to have an occasional treat among other healthy meals, we are practicing balance.

What advice do you have for someone struggling to find work/life balance?

I don't work a traditional job anymore, but I'd say to plan something fun to do for yourself every week – at least once per week – to stay happy. Schedule it far in advance so no "last minute obligations" come up. You deserve to celebrate yourself and to treat yourself!

Do you have any go-to resources or rituals that help you find balance?

Meditation has really changed the game for me, and it helps me balance what goes on in my brain, which as a result, helps me balance everything else. I usually use Insight Timer or look up a guided mediation on YouTube. You don't have to pay for a subscription to meditate effectively. Also, fitness helps me to stay balanced mentally and physically. I could be feeling down and go to my favorite workout and my whole day is turned around. I'm so thankful for fitness!

Now let’s have some fun, what are some random things we don’t know about you?

Rap and reggae/dancehall are my favorite genres of music. I love chocolate but prefer vanilla flavored things. I speak French conversationally and I know a bit of Italian and Spanish. Mario Party is the best video game ever - few things make me happier than playing it!
